POKER RUN

Saturday May 31, 2008
Luc "Snag" Levesque

The Relic Riders Motorcycle Club (RRMC) held their first Poker Run of the year today, and you couldn't have asked for a better day to kick off the first organized ride of the season! A little breezy but sun and chrome was shining everywhere all day.

The 45+ group left Carbonear at around 10:45am and headed out along the Veterans Memorial Highway to the Bay Roberts exit. From there they traveled through Brigus, the old CBS highway then onto to the Trans Canada Highway for a bite to eat at Monty's in Whitbourne. More riders were waiting for the group at Monty's to join the reminder of the ride through the scenic Baccalieu Trail.

As my luck would have it, my bike wasn't road ready yet so I decided to pack the Jeep with my two sons and found a great spot to wait and snap a few pictures and video of the procession as they rode past...horns and peace signs flashing! Cool! Sucked to be me on a nice day like this watching my buddies riding past with big shit eating grins on their faces!

I followed the group and got out to mingle at the scheduled break station before they headed out on the last leg of the ride. After a quick break, the pack rolled on to the Royal Canadian Legion in Carbonear where a hearty feed of moose soup awaited everyone. The soup was a meal in itself I tell ya! Kevin and Nick stood at the ready handing out bowl after bowl to the hungry masses.

Thanks to whoever made the soup and a huge thank you to Gord and Pete for scoring my two little guys to sample not one, not two, but three bowls of moose soup!

The Best Hand was won by Barry Trickett (Member of the RRMC). I have no idea what the hand was or the prize amount seeing how I was trying to make sure my boys didn't eat all the soup on everyone. A few other prizes were awarded randomnly. Thanks to Fast Freddy who gave me a sympathy prize :)

Although I didn't actually ride in the Poker Run, I sure had a great time nonetheless. I will upload some video later on, but in the meantime, here's a pictures of today's Relic Riders Poker Run.
